Hydrogen Autos

Hydrogen autos are not a new concept – the idea of using hydrogen and oxygen as a way to run a car instead of combustible fuel has been around for decades. However, this idea of a hydrogen auto has yet to be perfected to the point where the cars can run solely on hydrogen alone. Instead, the hydrogen autos that are available today are hybrid cars that run both on hydrogen which is created by a fuel cell as well as gasoline.

Hydrogen is created when water is heated to a point where it vaporizes and becomes a gas. This gas is then split into hydrogen and oxygen in a fuel cell to give the car its power. Hydrogen autos are the same technology as what are often referred to as water cars.

As we continue to search for alternate means of fuel to run our cars and look for more cleaner emissions than those provided by burning gasoline, car manufacturers as well as private inventors have been coming up with ideas for cars that run on alternate fuel. The hydrogen car is one.

Although there have been a few claims of hydrogen autos that run solely on hydrogen power alone, this is a matter of debate among the scientific community. While the concept of pure hydrogen autos may be one that can continue to be studied, car manufacturers are seeking ways to create a hydrogen auto that will continue to give high performance, are safe to drive and will take very little gasoline. The most powerful fuel cell created for some of the hydrogen autos that are run purely on hydrogen power may not be safe for the average driver. Hence, the major car manufacturers are coming up with hybrids. Some of the hydrogen cars that are available on the market today or are being studied include those manufactured by companies such as Honda, Toyota, Volkswagon, Suzuki, Renault, Mercedes, BMW and Think.

Because the hydrogen autos work with a fuel cell that promotes most of the power in the engine, hydrogen autos, even the hybrids, are much cheaper to run than traditional cars that run solely on gasoline. For this reason, there is a great interest in the further development and study of hydrogen autos that can run on water by environmental groups, consumer groups and even the federal government. Hydrogen autos may be more efficient, once perfected, than current alternate fuel vehicles such as tiny cars that are powered with electricity or compressed air. Do some research and consider buying a hydrogen auto when you are seeking to save fuel.
